Original, RARE WWII German Wehrmacht Panzer  80 W.S.a Radio Transmitter (FuG 5 Command Vehicles).
The 80 W.S.a was a powerful ultra-short-wave transmitter developed for the FuG 5 radio system, the standard communication equipment in many German armored command vehicles during the Second World War. Its purpose was to provide secure and reliable contact between tanks, reconnaissance vehicles, and command staff, giving Panzer units the ability to coordinate movements quickly and effectively on the battlefield.

Use in Armored Vehicles
This transmitter was fitted across a broad spectrum of German AFVs, including:

  • Panzer III & IV series,

  • Self-propelled guns and tank destroyers,

  • Specialized flak variants such as the Wirbelwind and Ostwind,

  • Command versions of the Panther and Jagdpanther,

  • Halftracks like the Sd.Kfz. 251/6 command vehicle.

By replacing the earlier 30 W.S.a, the 80 W.S.a offered greater reliability and range for armored communications.

Technical Notes

  • Typically paired with receivers such as the Torn.E.b, Lw.Ea, or Mw.E.c, forming a complete command radio station.

  • Produced mainly by Telefunken, with clear factory and Waffenamt acceptance marks.

  • Designed with the ruggedness necessary for frontline use in cramped, high-vibration environments.
